Linville Caverns - January 2010 : My wife and I decided to take a day in the mountains on Saturday, January 23rd as a little mini-vacation that we needed so badly. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, so the only thing we got to do, really, was to see the Linville Caverns. We were quite impressed! The formations are truly intricate and fascinating in their myriad shapes, and the colors are so vibrant. The experience - only briefly - of ABSOLUTE darkness when they turned the lights out, was kind of frightening. I mean, we knew we were safe, but man........that is DARK! We did get to enjoy the time away and just the 2 of us, though, so it was worth it.

I got to try out the high ISO capabilities of my new Canon 7D, too, which was fun - my first landscape photography with it. All of the pictures seen here were taken with the Canon 7D and Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 and were handheld! Truly remarkable. Not even a lot of noise reduction with Noise Ninja was necessary, even though I was shooting at ISO 6400. WOW! With my old Canon 30D, these pictures would have been impossible without a tripod.

Alaska Celebrity Cruise 2008 : In July of 2008, my wife and I went on an Alaskan cruise with Celebrity, and oh, what a fabulous vacation that was! While we were not blessed with beautiful weather, and the Inside Passage was so completely fogged/clouded in that we could barely see anything, we had only a little rain, and so we were able to go on a number of amazing excursions. I wish I'd had this website right on getting back so I could add more relevant information to the appropriate pictures, but the pictures can really speak for themselves. Stunning vistas, towering snow-capped peaks, friendly people, impeccable service by all aboard our ship, the Millenium, and OMG -- the food! WOW! We stuffed ourselves silly with marvelous food and drink the entire week. Needless to say, we would love to return and see it again!
